Making Your Smile Blossom with Teeth Straightening for Adults

Spring is traditionally a time of rejuvenation and rebirth. Although more than one million adults in the U.S. currently have braces, many more are interested in exploring the possibility of having their teeth straightened. Numerous adults who previously had orthodontics as children, now want to re-straighten their teeth, or are ready to do so to correct long-standing problems, or after the development of shifted teeth.

Teeth that are misaligned can make cleaning them more difficult, leading to tooth decay, erosion, and damage to the supporting tissue and bone. However, teeth that are correctly realigned can resolve issues such as speech or chewing difficulties, jaw problems, and the increased wear on tooth enamel that can be caused by an improper bite.

While some adults are self-conscious about the appearance of braces, advanced technology can now offer orthodontic therapy that is virtually invisible while effectively treating a wide variety of issues, including crowding, spacing, crossbite, overbite and underbite with Invisalign®. These clear plastic forms or aligners are made of smooth, comfortable plastic instead of the sharp metal of traditional braces.

The forms are produced after preliminary x-rays and impression molds have been taken. These molds are taken with a digital scanner and do not require any messy impressions! Then, a series of aligners are worn in order and can straighten teeth after a period of time of typically one to two years. This is generally followed by a clear retainer after treatment completion. Importantly, the trays are removable for brushing and flossing teeth, allowing for better oral hygiene without using the more elaborate methods required with metal braces.

The cost of Invisalign® treatment is generally the same or may even be less than traditional orthodontics and can effectively address orthodontic issues to create the confidence of a great smile while increasing the likelihood of improved oral health. It may be time to get the smile you’ve always wanted, and with this advanced technology there’s never been a better way to do it.
