Crowns & Bridges

Crowns and bridges are custom restorations designed to repair damaged teeth or replace missing teeth. A crown can protect and strengthen a weakened tooth, while a bridge can fill the space left by one or more missing teeth.
There are many important reasons to replace a missing tooth or teeth regardless of whether it’s in a location that is visible to others. A dental bridge can help to restore your smile’s appearance and normal function when a tooth or teeth have been lost. Leaving a tooth un-replaced can make it more difficult to eat, can affect your speech, may cause extra wear and tear on the surrounding teeth, and can create a greater risk for periodontal disease among other issues.
At My Plantation Dentist, Dr. Heidi Finkelstein takes a personalized approach to crowns and bridges, helping patients restore comfort, function, and a natural-looking smile.

Restore Strength, Function and Confidence

Crowns Restore Damaged Teeth

When teeth are damaged by decay, disease, or trauma a dental crown may be used to restore them. Unlike the use of a partials and dentures, crowns and bridges are cemented in place and are not removable. A crown can be used to make a tooth look better or it can be used to protect a damaged tooth. When a crown is made we match the color to the surrounding teeth. We use a local dental lab to create our porcelain crowns.
There are a few situations where we may recommend the placement of a crown:
  • large amount of decay
  • cracks or other damage
  • protection of weak teeth
  • cover poorly shaped teeth
  • cover teeth that have received root canal treatment
Dr. Heidi will evaluate your smile, listen to your concerns, and recommend the option that best supports your long-term oral health and appearance.

Bridges To Replace Missing Teeth

A bridge is a dental prosthesis that actually bridges the space where a missing tooth or teeth once were. There are removable bridges that are designed to be removed for cleaning or fixed bridges that are affixed for support to the natural teeth that surround it. Bridges can also be used with dental implants and may be a more cost-effective solution than replacing each tooth with an individual implant. Along with bridges and crowns, we can also help those patients who need bonding, composite restorations, and more.
A dental bridge can be used to replace missing teeth and bridge the space where the tooth or teeth once were. These bridges can be made to look, feel, and function like natural teeth.

What’s the Difference Between a Crown and a Bridge?

A crown is used to cover and protect a single tooth that has been damaged, weakened, or restored. A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to neighboring teeth or dental implants. Bridges can be removable or fixed, while crowns are always fixed.
