Three Tips to Overcome Dental Anxiety

As dentists, we totally get it – not everyone loves coming into our office.

However, it’s important to understand that keeping your mouth healthy is an essential piece of your overall health.

Whichever your reason may be: fear of needles, pain or a previous bad experience, it’s important to maintain healthy oral hygiene and visit your dentist on a regular basis as we’re able to spot oral health issues early on, when treatment is much easier and more affordable.

We’ve come up with a few tips to help you keep calm at your next dental appointment:

  1. Let us know how you’re feeling… If you’re tense or anxious, let us know! Getting your concerns out in the open will allow for our staff to better serve you and your needs.
  2. Bring your headphones…Does the sound the drill bother you? Bringing headphones to listen to your favorite music can calm you down. Feel free to “zone out” when you’re in the chair. If we need something, we’ll be sure to gently tap you on the shoulder J
  3. Bring a friend or family member for moral support… Feel like you’re too nervous or anxious to handle your appointment alone? Have someone tag along to get you through it! Make sure this person if comfortable in a dental office so they are able to keep you relaxed and happy.
